Austin Eguavoen will take charge of the Super Eagles’ 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya in October, while Justin Madugu has been named as the caretaker head coach of the Super Falcons.
The Nigeria Football Federation announced the appointments on Thursday after its Executive Committee approved the recommendation of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee.
Former Super Eagles captain Eguavoen, who is the Technical Director of the NFF, led the team in the first two matches of the qualifying series in early September, stepping in as the deal to appoint German Bruno Labbadia fell through.
The former defender, who coached the Super Eagles to the 2006 and 2021 AFCON tournaments, led them to a 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo and a 0-0 draw with Rwanda in Kigali in September.
Eguavoen and the current technical crew that also includes Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa and Tomaz Zorec will also take charge of the Super Eagles B team for the qualifying campaign for next year’s African Nations Championship, also known as CHAN.
Following the departure of Randy Waldrum as Super Falcons head coach, the Executive Committee also approved the recommendation of the Technical and Development Sub-Committee for Madugu to lead the remaining technical crew and take charge of the senior women’s national team, pending the appointment of a substantive head coach.
The Super Falcons’ next assignment is the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, taking place in Morocco next year.
