The Edo State Sports Commission has begun its drive for talents with the tour of Local Government Councils in the Edo South Senatorial District as part of its grassroots sports development programme.
The Edo State Commission under the leadership of the chairman, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, started the familiarization visit in Oredo, Egor and Ikpoba-Okha LGAs.
The Executive Director, representating Edo South Senatorial District, Baldwin Bazuaye MON, and the Zonal Coordinator, Edo South Senatorial District in the Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs. Doris Omoragbon, led the delegation to the areas where the chairmen and council executive were on the ground to receive the Sports Commissioner delegation.
During the familiarisation visit to the three local government areas, Bazuaye told the council executives that the visit was to intimate them with the Edo State Sports Commission`s plans to comb the areas in its talent hunt and grassroots development agenda.
At Oredo, the team was received by the Head of Local Government Administration, Dr Osaheni Igbinigie, wno assured that the council will collaborate with the Edo State Sports Commission in the grassroots sports department agenda.
When the team arrived at Egor Local Government, the Secretary to Egor Local Government, Zion O. Evbuomwan, and other executive members warmly received them on behalf of Egor LG Chairman, Dr. Eguakun Ighodaro Kelvin, who was unavoidably absent due to other official engagement.
“We appreciate Egor Local Government for the warm reception given us. We are in your local government to appeal for collaboration with the Edo State Sport Commission towards promotng sporting activities ahead of Local Governments Sports Festival coming up before April 2025 and Edo State Sports Festival coming up in April, 2025 as well as the National Sports Festival coming up in May, 2025,” Bazuaye said.
He further appealed to Egor LG to collaborate and support the sports commission in the area of grassroots sports regular competition for talent discovery and nurture
Evbuomwan who spoke on behalf of the Chairman appreciated the Edo State Sports Commission for the idea of bringing youths together through sports.
He promised that Egor LG will be ready to collaborate and support the commission in realising the dream, adding that Egor LG was prepared to come first in all the sporting activities in the state.
The reception for the team was the same at Ikpoba-Okha LGA as the chairman of the council, Obosa Jolly Ogbeide, assured the Edo State Sports Commission of support and interest in sports.
The chairman recalled that they won the maiden Edo State Sports Festival and boasted that they will win it again.
