Edo Queens secure first CAFWCL ticket after WAFU triumph
Edo Queens have qualified for the CAF Women’s Champions League for the first after winning the WAFU Zone B qualifying tournament on Friday in Cote d’Ivoire.
The Nigeria Women’s Football League champions defeated Benin Republic’s Ainonvi 3-0 in the WAFU B final in Bouake to seal the continental spot.
Captain and Woman of the Match Suliat Abideen, Emem Essien and an Elizabeth Ukandu own goal secured the victory for the Benin City ladies.
Abideen struck first on the stroke of half-time and Essien doubled the lead just before the hour mark.
Ainonvi’s Ukandu put the ball in her own net 11 minutes from time to put the icing on the cake for Edo Queens.

The Nigerian champions will leave Cote d’Ivoire with a 100 percent record having won all their five matches.
Edo Queens defeated Etencelle, Hasaacas Ladies and AS GNN in the group phase before dispatching Inter Abidjan in the semi-finals on the way to Friday’s big win.
