Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has said he is in no rush to leave Rangers this month — and believes he can strike up a deadly double act with his Moroccan teammate Hamza Igamane.
Dessers cast doubt on his Rangers future earlier this month when he told a Dutch newspaper that he was seeking talks with club chiefs after losing his place to the Moroccan.
But Dessers has been impressive of late, scoring six goals in his last four games — including stunning efforts against Manchester United and Dundee United.
The 30-year-old has now scored 15 goals in all competitions this season for the Gers.
Asked if he had sought out senior Rangers figures for discussions over a potential exit this month, Dessers said: “No talks at all. I don’t mind that. I try to focus on the football and the things that are happening on the pitch.
“Those are the things that I can control. And like Sunday at Tannadice (against Dundee), I’m just happy to be out there with the guys and fight for the points and be important.
“That’s what I want. There’s a lot of unfinished business at Rangers for me. That’s also why I kept pushing in the last weeks, in the gym, in training, in the minutes that you get, that’s because of that.”
Saturday’s 3-1 win over Dundee saw Dessers and Igamane start together for the first time. And the Nigeria international saw signs of promise in that partnership.
”For a striker, rhythm is so important, but I was happy to be on the pitch to play together up top with Hamza.
“And I think we have a very good connection, and hopefully that can grow as well. I think most of the time he came on for me, or the other way around. Hamza is a very good guy and when he was playing, I tried to support and try to help him, but I always thought like that, that we could be a very good fit and Sunday was a start.
“And if that understanding gets even better, I think there’s way more possible. I feel like I’m in a good place. I’ve been feeling that for a couple of weeks. I’ve been working hard on and off the pitch and then if you get the moments like this, to show it, and then you need to show it.”
