Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers was on target again on Saturday but it was not enough as his Rangers side suffered a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox.
Dessers went into the game on the back of netting a brace in Rangers’ 4-2 victory at Kilmarnock last Wednesday.
The Nigeria international has now registered 11 goals and two assists in 26 appearances in the Scottish top fligt this season (18 goals and four assists in 40 matches in all competitions).
Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was also in action for Rangers after he was brought on in the 46th minute for his 14th league appearance this season.
Motherwell raced to a 2-0 lead inside 30 minutes thanks to goals from Luke Armstrong and Tom Sparrow.
Dessers then pulled a goal back for Rangers in the 54th minute as they lost their first home game under new coach Barry Ferguson, who is a former star of the club.
Rangers are in second place in the Scottish Premiership, 16 points behind leaders and fierce rivals Celtic, while Motherwell are sixth.
In the German Bundesliga, Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella scored in Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt.
It is Tella’s second goal with two assists in 19 league appearances this term.
The Nigeria international opened the scoring in the 26th minute while Patrik Schick, Aleix Garcia and Nordi Mukiele were also on target for the Bundesliga champions.
Tella was replaced by his compatriot Victor Boniface with 13 minutes left to play for his 14th league appearance this season, having contributed seven goals and one assist.
The result leaves Leverkusen in second place, eight points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich.
In the English Championship, Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis was sent off in Blackburn Rovers’ 1-1 draw with Norwich City at Elwood Park.
Dennis was dismissed in the 85th minute after receiving his second caution.
Norwich capitalised on the sending off and scored in the 90th minute through Ante Crnac.
But Andreas Weimann netted in the 96th minute to rescue a point for Rovers who are seventh, just one place away from the play-off spots.
