Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has been named the Player of the Season for Fulham.
The Nigeria international topped the award poll ahead of his compatriot Alex Iwobi, who came a distant second.
“Calvin Bassey has been named Fulham’s Player of the Season for 2024/2025. After finishing second in his maiden campaign last year, Bassey has gone one better this time around, comfortably coming out on top of the final round of voting,” the English Premier League club stated on Friday.
Bassey received 39.6% of the votes, with Iwobi garnering 21.5%.
Antonee Robinson came third (19.9%), Bernd Leno fourth (10.9%) and Saša Lukić fifth (8.1%).
“A highly dependable figure at the back, Bassey featured in all but three of our Premier League fixtures as the team went on to secure a record points haul, with his pace, strength and confidence bringing the ball out of defence a key component in our success,” Fulham added.
“He also contributed at the other end with two vital goals – the winner at home to high-flying Nottingham Forest, and the opener at Old Trafford in our famous Emirates FA Cup win.”
Bassey, 25, expressed gratitude to Fulham fans and his colleagues for appreciating his contributions and for making him shine.
“Thank you guys for voting me Player of the Season,” he said. “I want to thank God – without God I wouldn’t be where I am.
“Big up all my team, guys who are not necessarily at the club, who have been helping me.
“Obviously, thanks to the coaching staff and the Manager for trusting me and believing in me. Hopefully we can do amazing things next season, so thank you for your support guys.”
