    CAFWCL: Edo Queens to earn guaranteed $150k, compete for $600,000 grand prize

    Nigeria’s representatives in this year’s CAF Women’s Champions League, Edo Queens, will earn at least $150,000 (about N250 million) from the competition, with as much as $600,000 (about N1 billion) at stake.

    The Confederation of African Football confirmed the cash prizes on offer at the competition on Thursday, with all eight clubs guaranteed at least $150,000, which is what teams finishing bottom of the two groups will earn.

    The clubs finishing third in the two four-team groups will be paid $200,000 each, while losing semi-finalists will receive $300,000.

    The third-place match winners will get $350,000, with the runners-up receiving $400,000 and the champions $600,000.

    The CAF Women’s Champions League started under the leadership of Dr Patrice Motsepe in 2021 and this year’s prize money has increased by 52 percent to a total of $2.35 million.

    “CAF is committed to developing and growing women’s football in Africa and the objective of President Motsepe is to invest in youth academies for boys and girls and to continue increasing the prize monies of all CAF competitions to make them globally competitive and attractive,” the continental governing body said on Thursday.

    First-timers Edo Queens are in Group B with champions Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, FC Masar of Egypt and CBE of Ethiopia.

    The competition is scheduled for November 9 to November 23 in Morocco.

    Runners-up: $400,000
    3rd Place: $350,000
    4th Place: $300,000
    3rd in the group: $200,000 each
