Edo Queens kicked off their debut campaign in the CAF Women’s Champions League with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Commercial Bank of Ethiopia on Sunday in Casablanca, Morocco, shortly after champions Mamelodi Sundowns were beaten.
Emem Essien, Folashade Ijamilusi and Chukwuamaka Osigwe struck for the Nigerian representatives against the Ethiopians in a one-sided encounter.
Edo Queens, who won the WAFU B title to qualify for the continental competition, got on the scoresheet early, with Essien netting in the fifth minute off an assist by Ijamilusi.
The Nigerian side extended their lead 10 minutes after the break, with Ijamilusi, hat-trick heroine for the Super Falcons against Algeria in October, finishing off a team move.
Edo Queens sealed the win 10 minutes from time as substitute Osigwe scored with a well-taken left-footed strike.
With the victory, Edo Queens climbed to the top of Group B, ahead of FC Masar on goal difference.
FC Maser shocked holders Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 in the group opener earlier on Sunday.
