German coach, Bruno Labbadia, has dropped a cryptic hint that suggests a possible agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to become the new Super Eagles coach.
In a post on his Instagram handle on Wednesday, Labbadia wrote: “New chapter”, adding the Nigerian flag.
This comes after the initial effort by the NFF to bring him as a replacement for Finidi George, who resigned as Eagles coach in June, failed.
The football federation had announced Labbadia as the substantive coach on August 27, days to Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Republic of Benin and Rwanda.
However, the 58-year-old former Bayern Munich striker and Bayer Leverkusen coach pulled out of the deal few days after the announcement, with the NFF blaming the “stringent regulations of German tax authorities” for the collapse of the deal.
Subsequently, the NFF asked its technical director, Augustine Eguavoen, to step in as caretaker manager for the two games.
Nigeria defeated the Cheetahs 3-0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 7, and played 0-0 with the Amavubi in Kigali three days later.
