Brighton fight back vs Arsenal after Declan Rice red card
Declan Rice received a controversial red card and Brighton made it to force a 1-1 draw in Saturday’s English Premier League early kick-off at the Emirates Stadium.
Joao Pedro netted in the second half for Brighton after Rice’s sending off for a second booking in the tight contest in north London.
It had looked as if Arsenal were going to continue their 100 percent start to the season when Bukayo Saka set up Kai Havertz to lob the ball past Bart Verbruggen in the Brighton goal for the opener seven minutes before half-time.
However, the game’s complexion changed after Rice was sent off for a second yellow card in the 49th minute for delaying a free-kick from being taken by Joel Veltman.
The Brighton defender could also feel lucky to have got away without being cautioned himself.
Brighton, with the one-man advantage, kept up the pressure after that point and were level just before the hour mark when Yankuba Minteh’s shot was pushed into the path of Pedro by David Raya and the Brazilian striker slotted the ball under the keeper.
Havertz then had a good chance to win the game when he was through on goal, but his effort was saved by Verbruggen.
Brighton substitute Yasin Ayari had a big chance to win it but he had an effort saved by Raya, when the attacker made the wrong decision of going for the far post with the near post open.
Brighton continued to push for the winning goal and brought on new £39.5m signing Georginio Rutter as they looked for a magic moment, but he mistimed a header from close range.
