Victor Boniface returned from international duty with Nigeria’s Super Eagles to score for Bayer Leverkusen in their 3-1 home win against Bochum in the Bundesliga on Friday night.
The Super Eagles striker, who was a late substitute in the damaging 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe in a World Cup qualifier in Uyo on Tuesday, took his goals tally in the German top flight to eight in 16 appearances this season.
Boniface scored in the 60th minute to put his side 2-1 ahead, poking home from close range.
He was on target again with 10 minutes left to play but his effort was disallowed after consultation with the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Aleix Garcia had opened the scoring for Leverkusen in the 20th minute before Felix Passlack equalised for visiting Bochum.
Amine Adli then got Leverkusen’s third goal with three minutes left to play.
Leverkusen are second in the Bundesliga table, three points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who will host St. Pauli on Saturday.
