Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface continued his rich vein of form on Saturday, scoring his fourth goal in six Bundesliga matches for Bayer Leverkusen in their 2-2 draw against Holstein Kiel.
Also, Ademola Lookman bagged an assist in Atalanta’s 5-1 thrashing of Genoa in the Italian Serie A.
It was Boniface’s second goal in as many games for the Bundesliga champions after he scored the winning goal against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League last Tuesday.
The 23-year-old put Leverkusen, who have not been as invincible as they were last season, into the lead after four minutes at the BayArena. Jonas Hofmann made it two four minutes but Max Geschwill reduced the deficit on the stroke of half-time for the visitors who completed their comeback in the 69th minute through Jann-Fiete Arp.
Boniface has now scored six goals in eight matches in all competition for the German club this season. Leverkusen have dropped five points at home already in this campaign, losing to RB Leipzig back in August, in the campaign to defend their title.
Lookman did not get on the score sheet in his side’s pummeling of their opponents but he took his goal involvements for the season to three goals and three assists in seven matches. The 26-year-old provided the assist for Mateo Retegui to put Atalanta ahead in the 24th minute. However, the Nigeria international was subbed off in the 68th minute.
Both Boniface and Lookman are in the 23-man list released by Super Eagles interim head coach Austin Eguavoen for Nigeria’s back-to-back 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Libya this month.
