Arsenal legend, Ian Wright, has confessed that Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, gives him great concern ahead of the club’s UEFA Champions League fixture against Atalanta in Bergamo on Thursday.
Lookman was named the man of the match last weekend after inspiring Atalanta to a 3-2 Serie A victory over Fiorentina. The 26-year-old provided the assist for his side’s equaliser and scored the winning goal.Speaking on his Wrighty’s House podcast, the 60-year-old former record goalscorer for Arsenal expressed admiration for the Nigeria international.
“Oh gosh, did you see his (Lookman’s) first assist with the way he just flicked it? So good. It’s really beautiful football, I’m so pleased for him. Yeah, he worries me,” Wright said.
“But we’ve got Ben White on that side, if he’s going to be on that side. And you know what? I’m pleased for him. His journey, where he’s gone, what he’s doing now, you could see a big move, you could see a move for him.”
The former striker suggested the ex-RB Leipzig winger could soon leave the Italian club.
“I’d love him to stay there, he’s been so good at Atalanta. The way he’s worked up, all the way from Charlton to where he is now… You’d believe that Atalanta is not his final destination in his mind,” Wright stated.
Lookman scored 17 goals for Atalanta last season, including a hat-trick in the final of the UEFA Europa League to help Atalanta lift the trophy for the first time in their history.
He is the only African footballer nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or.
