Arsenal will host Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday in one of the most highly-anticipated games of the season. However, they are in the midst of an injury crisis with several key defenders unavailable for the match.
William Saliba is suspended, and now Riccardo Calafiori is a doubt through injury. Diogo Jota will not feature after Arne Slot confirmed that he is injured.
Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the fitness of Calafiori, Bukayo Saka and Dutch defender Jurrien Timber ahead of their Premier League match with Liverpool on Sunday.
He revealed that they are all doubts, but that the Gunners will try to have them fit in time to feature on Sunday.
“We’re going to do our very best to somehow have them available,” he said in the pre-match press conference.
“It’s very uncertain.”
However, what is certain is that Gunners captain Martin Odegaard is still not fit to play.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot has confirmed that Diogo Jota will not feature at Emirates Stadium.
The Portuguese forward was injured in the Reds’ match against Chelsea, and Slot admits there is no chance he will be back in time to face Arsenal.
However, he seemed slightly more optimistic about the fitness of Federico Chiesa and Conor Bradley, suggesting they are still in with a chance of making his squad.
“I think they feel good but not when it comes to playing for us during the weekend,” he said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“Federico might train with us today or tomorrow, but Jota definitely not [available against Arsenal] and Conor Bradley, let’s see if he can be with us tomorrow.”
