Super Eagles defender Ola Aina was in superb form on Saturday as Nottingham Forest beat Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford, handing Ruben Amorim a second consecutive English Premier League defeat.
Forest capitalised on Manchester United’s defensive errors to secure their first win at Old Trafford in almost 30 years, with Nikola Milenkovic, Morgan Gibbs-White and the in-form Chris Wood scoring for the visitors, while Rasmus Hojlund and Bruno Fernandes netted for the flailing hosts.
Hojlund replied to Milenkovic’s early opener, but Amorim’s home side were unable to equalise for a second time after they conceded twice in seven minutes at the start of the second half.
United goalkeeper Andre Onana was at fault for Forest’s second goal, shaping to make a low save to his right when Gibbs-White hit the ball from the edge of the box, only to be beaten to his left as the ball did not move as he expected.
Onana and Matthijs de Ligt then let birthday boy Wood’s looping far-post header bounce between them, and Lisandro Martinez failed to react either as the ball ended up in the far corner.
Fernandes reduced the deficit after 61 minutes from Amad Diallo’s reverse ball, but despite making five changes the hosts were unable to force an equaliser.
It means United have suffered back-to-back English Premier League defeats for the second time this season, with this setback coming three days after their 2-0 midweek loss at Arsenal.
Amorim has won only one of his four league games in charge since replacing Etik ten Hag as his side remain 13th. Their 19 points from 15 games is United’s lowest tally at this stage of a season since 1986/1987.
Forest, in contrast, are up to fifth in the table, and Aina played an important role in the rise, stopping Manchester United’s attack from his flank and getting involved in offensive Forest moves.
