The Super Eagles have arrived in Kigali, for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying clash against the Amavubi of Rwanda scheduled for Tuesday.
The three-time African champions landed in Rwanda’s capital city on Sunday evening, 24 hours after their opening qualifying Group D clash with Benin Republic in Uyo.
The Eagles recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over the Cheetahs of Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, courtesy of a brace from Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman and new Galatasaray signing Victor Osimhen.
Unlike in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the three-time African champions have begun their quest to reach the next AFCON in Morocco on a positive note.
For the first time in several months, the senior national team, now being handled by interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, gave Nigerians something to cheer after going winless in four competitive matches.
Eguavoen has said the objective of the team is to win the first two matches in the qualification series to the continental showpiece, but the Eagles would have to improve on their performance if they intend to leave Rwanda with all the three points.
Torsten Spittler’s side are leading the Group C of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on seven points, alongside South Africa and Benin, but they drew their first AFCON qualifier against Libya last Wednesday.
