    Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has been nominated along with 29 others for the men’s Ballon d’Or, the award for the best football player in Europe.

    The nominees were unveiled on Wednesday, and with the Atalanta star the only Nigerian and African player nominated.

    Lookman will vie with 29 other players for the prestigious prize, including Jude Bellingham of England and Real Madrid, Harry Kane of England and Bayern Munich, Erling Haaland of Norway and Manchester City, as well as Martin Odegaard of Norway and Arsenal and Cole Palmer of England and Chelsea.

    Lookman has had a phenomenal 2024, scoring three goals as the Super Eagles reached the Africa Cup of Nations final in February and netting the first-ever UEFA Europa League final hat-trick as Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in May.

    He will hope to do as well as or even surpass his Super Eagles teammate Victor Osimhen, who finished eighth in the final Ballon d’Or voting last year.

    This year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on Monday, October 28 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, France.
