Former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo has slammed the Libya Football Federation (LFF) over its decision to appeal the verdict of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), regarding the botched 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier with Nigeria.
CAF awarded three points and three goals to Nigeria and also fined the LFF $50,000 in a judgement released on Saturday, following the inhumane treatment of the Nigerian team in events leading to the boycotted return leg of the AFCON qualifying campiagn in Libya.
But the LFF has vowed that it appeal what it described as an ‘unjust’ decision.
Obodo, who won 21 caps for Nigeria,
spoke with Brila FM on CAF’s position on the matter on Monday. He said the Libyans are fighting a lost cause.
“That is an insult to football, let me put it that way. You cannot take a country like Nigeria, Super Eagles for that matter, and you made them passed through that stress because they claimed we also treated them in the same manner,” the former Fiorentina and Udinese star said.
“What are they appealing? Those three points are gone. Nigeria won’t play against them in this qualifiers again; CAF or whoever shouldn’t even entertain their appeal. The three points is the best decision to take by CAF.”
In its ruling, CAF said it found Libya to have “breached Article 31 of the African Cup of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code…”
